Mini Mariners School Holiday Program

Looking for something fun, active, and confidence-building for the kids these school holidays?
Join the RMYC Broken Bay Mini Mariners Holiday Program — a three-day adventure designed to help children develop new sailing skills, learn water safety, and most importantly, have a great time on Pittwater!

Each day offers a balance of structured learning, teamwork, and fun on (and in!) the water. The program is perfect for young sailors of all experience levels, whether they’re just starting out or already comfortable at the helm.

Dates: 6th -8th January 2026 

Day 1 – Getting Started on the Water

Focus: Safety, confidence, and the basics of sailing.

Our first day introduces the Mini Mariners to the parts of a boat and the fundamentals of sailing, including how to tack and recover from a capsize safely in shallow water.
Kids build water confidence through hands-on activities such as:

• Boat-part identification and rigging practice

• Tacking drills on land

• Shallow-water capsize recovery

• The always-popular Captain’s Coming! game

• Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding sessions

Day 2 – Building Confidence and Exploring Navigation

Focus: Skills refreshers and introduction to navigation.

Day two is all about putting those new skills into practice. Mini Mariners revisit their tacking and capsize recovery techniques before heading out to explore the waterways and learn about navigation.
Highlights include:

• Refresher sessions in shallow water

• Bic surfing for balance and fun

• A RIB (rescue boat) trip to navigation markers

• Learning the points of the compass through The Guide game

• Afternoon sailing sessions around the bay

Day 3 – Adventure Day!

Focus: Fun, teamwork, and on-water exploration.

The final day brings everything together with an adventure sail to a nearby location. It’s all about teamwork, independence, and celebrating how far the kids have come.
Activities include:

• Pirate-themed games

• Kayaking and SUP adventures

• A destination sail and on-water challenges
